Loving: Winter 2018

Happy winter!  Although the winter is not our favorite season, below are the items I am loving, so far, this winter!

1. Pajamas — These are the most comfortable pajamas I have ever owned.  The light weight material is so soft and they are perfect — they keep one just warm enough!  I love them so much that I bought a second pair of these pajamas!

2. Lululemon Full Freedom Tank – I recently bought this work out tank top and it is really comfortable.  I highly recommend it!

3. The Universe Has Your Back Cards — Last year I read the book, The Universe Has Your Back, and I recently got these cards, with daily words of inspiration, which I have gifted to a few friends!

4. PuraSense Humidifier – It has been cold and dry that we got a new humidifier for our bedroom at night.  This humidifier works really well by keeping moisture in the air in our bedroom!

5. Ponds Dry Skin Facial Cream  – Since it had been so cold and dry while we were in Michigan over the Holidays, I used my Mom’s face cream and found the Ponds Dry Skin Facial Cream to work well, and plus it is really inexpensive!  I have continued to use it this winter for extra moisture.

6. Warby Parker Glasses – I had to get new glasses and I used Warby Parker!  We have a Warby Parker not too far from our home and the process of getting new glasses was seamless and easy!

Loving: Fall 2017

Happy fall!  We are happy to be in the season of fall, a season of harvest!  Below are the items I am loving, so far, this fall!

1. Get To Work Book – I love this annual planner/work book.  I always like to keep a paper planner versus using an app, iPhone, etc.  I have this planner all ready to go for next year and I love the extra pages included as well for notes, big projects, etc.  So, if you prefer keeping a paper planner, I highly recommend The Get To Work Book, which offers much more space (pages) than a traditional planner and it is a perfect size!

2. Align Crop Pant, Lululemon  – I love these pants; and I live in them — they are the most comfortable pants I own!  I cannot say enough good things about these crop pants, which are wonderful for working out, yoga class, and for wearing around the house!  Also, there are some nice, new colors available this season as well!

3. Satya Jewelry – I somewhat recently discovered this line of jewelry.  The style is quite simple, elegant, and inspirational, while created with global consciousness.

4. Jeni’s Ice Cream — We first came across Jeni’s ice cream in Charleston when we were on vacation this summer.  This ice cream is delicious and we get it at our local Wegmans!  The Brown Butter Almond Brittle is one of my favorites.  And there is a new scoop shop in D.C., which is much closer to home!  (You can find a local grocer who sells Jeni’s ice cream here.)

5. Signature Candle, Magnolia — I love candles, and we generally have them lit around the house when we are home.  I especially love the Magnolia signature candle.  It smells really wonderful!

6. Mrs. Meyers Soap – My normal dish soap was out at the store, so I decided to try Mrs. Meyers lavender dish soap — it smells great and it is a keeper!

Loving: Summer 2017

Happy summer!  We are so happy that the summer months have arrived!  Below are the items I am loving, so far, this summer!

1. Blue Apron – In an effort to mix things up this summer, and in an effort to eat healthy while not taking too much meal time preparation, we have tried some meals from Blue Apron.  The menu changes frequently, and the contents to make each meal comes right to your own front door!

2. Cascadian Farm Granola, Oat and Honey – We eat a lot of yogurt, especially Dannon’s Activia probiotic yogurt, and Cascadian Farm’s granola is the best granola I have had in a while!  And, it pairs great with yogurt!

3. Neutrogena Sunscreen – All summer we have been using Neutrogena’s Beach Defender, 70 SPF sunscreen.  It works really well, smells great, and does not leave an oily residue on one’s skin.  We used this at the beach while on vacation and we use it when we go to the pool each week.  I highly recommend this product if you are looking for a great, high SPF sunscreen that really protects your skin from the sun.

4. Philosophy Purity Facial Wipes — I do not wear too much makeup, but when I do, I love using Philosophy’s facial wipes to take my make up off.  They work really well.

5. The Bright Hour — This is a truly really great memoir written by Nina Riggs about the last two years of her life, which I recently finished reading.  She completed her memoir in January; and she, sadly, died the next month, at age 39, of metastatic breast cancer.  According to Riggs, “I think a real gift that this experience gave me was forcing me to appreciate my life/death, not just my life.  I had to embrace the experience of having cancer, because that experience was part and parcel to my experience of my husband, my kids, my dearest friends.  So I would say I really hope the book I wrote will make you feel much more joy than anything else.”  Riggs writes beautifully.  I highly recommend this memoir.  It has been said that it is this year’s When Breath Becomes Airwhich I also read last year.

6. Caseology Case – I had to get a new iPhone case for each of our phones, and I really like the cases we purchased from Caseology.  They look great, come in various colors to match your phone, and they are sturdy, too!

Loving: Spring 2017

Happy spring!  We are so happy that spring is officially here!  Below are the items I am loving, so far, this spring!

1. Mara Hoffman bikini – I love this bikini and the Mara Hoffman line.  We are ready for our pools to open next month!

2. DKNY Underwear – Lululemon stopped making my favorite underwear, and I had to find an alternative; and the DKNY underwear is very comfortable and a close alternative.

3. Toms’ Shoes – I love love these new shoes by Toms.  They are very comfortable and they are a little bit different in design.

4. Lululemon Hotty Hot Short — I love these new shorts!  I have several pairs, which are very comfortable to work out in.

5. Hourglass — This book is a beautiful memoir about marriage.  I love this quote from the book, which is so true, “Change even one moment, the whole thing unravels.  The narrative thread doesn’t stretch in a line from end to end, but rather, spools and unspools, loops around and returns again and again to the same spot.  There is no other life than this. You would not have stumbled into the vastly imperfect, beautiful, impossible present.”

6. Pocky – I like Pocky, especially the green tea covered biscuit sticks!

Things I Love: Winter 2017

Happy winter!  While this is not necessarily our favorite time of year, we are taking advantage of the time indoors to be productive!

1. Empathy Cards by Emily McDowell  – I love cards and I like sending cards.  Emily McDowell is an illustrator and she has a relatively recent new lines of cards, Empathy Cards, which are perfect to send to a friend or family member experiencing a terrible illness or loss.  Emily is a cancer survivor herself, which was the impetus for creating this line of cards.  So, if you need a card to show your support, when you may not have the words, these are wonderful cards to send.

2. The Universe Has Your Back – I recently read this book by Gabriel Bernstein over the Holiday break, and I really enjoyed it.

3. Lucas’ Pawpaw Ointment – I have been using Lucas’ Pawpaw Ointment over the past several months.  It works fantastically for chapped lips and for chapped hands.  You can order it here.

4. Cetaphil Lotion — Since it has become colder, I have been hydrating my skin, and this lotion works really well — it does not have a scent and it does not leave an oily residue.  I love it!

5. Celestial Seasonings Green Tea — I have been drinking more hot tea lately and I really love this green tea and it tastes really great with almond milk and honey!

6. Fitbit Charge 2 – Doug gave me a new Fitbit for Christmas, and I love it!  I usually am making 10,000 steps a day!

5. Planner — I am ‘old fashioned,’ and I like having a paper planner to keep track of work and personal appointments, items, etc.  I have used this weekly paper planner found on Etsy for the past two years, and I love it.

6. Perfect Over Present – I recently finished reading this book and really enjoyed it.  This book provided a refreshing perspective on life.

Happy summer!  We are so happy that summer is officially here!   Below are the items I am loving, so far, this summer!

loving summer 2016

1. Sticky9 Photo Magnets – I love photo magnets, and our refrigerator/freezer are covered in photo magnets, over 100 images and counting!  Using photo magnets makes it really easy to showcase photos and easily update photos without harming the original photographs.  A couple of examples of recent photo magnets that I made, are shown in the image above.  I enjoy making them and sharing them with family.  It is also fun to have a rotating ‘gallery wall’ in the kitchen using these magnets on your refrigerator and freezer!

2. Special K Red Berries Cereal – I love Special K Red Berries cereal.  I have recently been eating this for breakfast with almond milk and, some evenings, Victory and I also eat it dry for a snack and she loves it, too!

3. Lululemon Run Times Four Way Stretch Shorts – I love these shorts!  They fit well and the material breathes well, too.  They are perfect for exercising!

4. Yasso — We love Yasso frozen yogurt bars.  They are low-calorie, and they come in a variety of flavors and, most of all, they taste great!

6. Soapbox – I love Soapbox shampoo and conditioner.  The shampoo is sulfate free; and the conditioner leaves my hair feeling silky smooth and great!  I highly recommend this shampoo and conditioner.

Well, it is technically spring, the trees are in bloom, we can her the bird chirping in the morning, and the days are getting longer!  Below are the items I am loving this spring!

Loving Spring 2016

1. Amazon Prime – We love having Amazon Prime.  We were a little late to this party, but we love the free shipping and the extra fast, next day, shipping along with a myriad of television series and movies that are available, too!

2. Nick and Nora Pajamas — I love these pajamas.  They are made out of a soft, stretchy jersey like material and they are not too warm, but yet warm enough!  These pajamas even come in a dog pattern as well!

3. Batiste Dry Shampoo — When you are on the go or traveling, etc., you are going to love this magical little can that works miracles on your hair.

4. Trader Joe’s Cards — I love sending actual paper cards to friends and family, a dying tradition, and I really like the variety of artists’ work and quality of the greetings cards at Trader Joe’s, and they are a fraction of the price of other greeting cards!  Everyone loves receiving cards!

5. Serendipity Frozen Hot Chocolate  For dessert sometimes, Doug makes us the most delicious Serendipity Frozen Hot Chocolate!  It is amazing!  You can also visit the Serendipity Restaurant in Manhattan!

6. LetterFolk — I love our LetterFolk Poet, that we now have in our house.  It is great because we can constantly change the words/messages/quotes/mantras, as needed!  We love it!

Things I Love: Winter 2016

It is officially winter with the colder temperatures, and I wanted to share some items that I love!  Winter, along with the cold temperatures and short days, is not my favorite time of year, but I am making the best this season this year, while focusing on finishing my project.  The cooler weather provides more time to do editing work for my photography project and it also provides time to catch up on things inside our house that I would otherwise put aside.  Below are the items I am loving during the winter!

Loving Winter 2015

1. Mantra Bands – A friend recently told me about Mantra Bands.  I love them and I sent several as Christmas gifts this year.  I have the one that reads, “Be Present,” which is my word and mantra for this year.  Thus, I am constantly reminded of my word for the year!

2. Athletica Down Vest — Doug got me a vest from Athletica, and I love it.  It has come in very handy, especially since the beginning part of winter has been unseasonably warm.  It is very comfortable and keeps me warm without simultaneously being too warm!

3. Goody Hair Ribbon Elastics — I recently discovered these hair ribbon elastics, and I love them.  I find them to hold my hair much better than regular hair rubber bands.

4. Clinique Face Primer — I have been using the Clinique Universal Face Primer, and I love it.  My makeup, when I wear it, goes on so much more easily, and it prevents flaking in the dryer, cooler months.

5. Fitbit  As part of my Christmas present from my parents, I got a Fitbit, and I love it.  It helps keep me on track with my movement, and I have been reaching 10,000 steps on most days!

6. Hold Still Sally Mann — After the Holidays, I started reading Sally Mann’s new memoir, and I am enjoying this book.  I love reading about other photographers and artists’ lives.  I like Sally Mann’s work and it is really intriguing to read more about her life and her artistic process.  I recommend this book to any  artist.

Things I Love: Fall 2015

It is already well into fall, our favorite time of year, and I wanted to share some items that I love!  This is our favorite time of year for many reasons — we adopted our little Victory in the fall and we recently celebrated her two-year anniversary/birthday; we celebrated our seventh wedding anniversary; and we just love everything fall!  We enjoyed our annual trip to the pumpkin patch with our Victory!  Doug also carved a wonderful pumpkin this year!  You can start to feel the crisp fall air in the mornings and evenings, which I love!

things i love fall 2015

1. Lululemon Align Pant – While we were in Quebec for vacation, we made our way to Lululemon, one of my favorite stores, and what made this trip even better is that our dollar is stronger than the Canadian dollar, and the prices are the same in Canadian and U.S. dollars, so we got a bigger bang for our buck!  I came across these pants while in Quebec, and they are the most, most, most comfortable pair of pants I own!  I highly recommend them!  They feel very similar to my favorite underware from Lululemon!   They were first released in Canada, and they were recently released in the U.S.

2. Rising Strong – I finished reading Rising Strong by Brene Brown.  This was a great read.   Rising Strong is essentially about rallying after a fall.  The Rising Strong Process has three stages.  First, The Reckoning, where you acknowledge that an emotional “button” has been pushed.  Second, The Rumble, where you revisit, challenge, and reality-check the (most-likely negative) narrative you have created for the situation.  Lastly, The Revolution, where you integrate what you learned from the second step into your future interactions with people, situations, life, etc.  This is a good process to implement.

I love this quote, “To love someone fiercely, to believe in something with your whole heart, to celebrate a fleeting moment in time, to fully engage in a life that doesn’t come with guarantees — these are risks that involve vulnerability and often pain.  But, I’m learning that recognizing and leaning into the discomfort of vulnerability teaches us how to live with joy, gratitude, and grace.” – Brene Brown

If you haven’t already, you can also view Brene Brown’s TED Talks here.

3. Anthropologie Candles — I love burning candles in our house, especially during the cooler months — it makes our home feel cozy.  I especially love the candles from Anthropologie, they are wonderful!

4. Magic Lessons Podcast — If you have not checked out this podcast by Elizabeth Gilbert, you should because it is really great!  I have listened to all of the podcast episodes, and they are very inspirational and enlightening.  According to Elizabeth Gilbert, the mission behind this podcast is to provide “road maps for the path to creativity, the extra nudge you need when you’re feeling stuck.”  After listening to Magic Lessons, I really enjoyed reading Big Magic, and I will share more soon!

5. Ergo Performance Carrier — Prior to leaving for vacation, I researched possible carriers that might work for Victory as Quebec City has narrow and cobblestone lines streets making the Hound About a bit more challenging for us to use in Quebec City as Victory gets nervous around many unfamiliar people, making walking her on her leash difficult.  So, we bought the Ergo Performance Carrier, made for a human baby up to 45 pounds, because of its breathable material (Victory is, after all, covered in fur) in a neutral color so that we both can wear it.  Doug was a little skeptical at first, but the Ergo Performance Carrier has won over!  Victory loves it!  Here is Doug wearing the Ergo on vacation; and here is me wearing the Ergo on vacation!  The Ergo has even come in really handy since vacation!

6. (Original Danish/Swedish Version) — Doug and I started watching The Bridge (the original Sweedish version) on Netflix, and we could not stop watching it!  It was very good.  We look forward to the next season of The Bridge!

Happy Friday!  We hope that you have a great weekend!  My parents and ‘Uncle Nick’ are in town visiting!  The weather is supposed to be beautiful!
