Things I Love: Winter 2016

It is officially winter with the colder temperatures, and I wanted to share some items that I love!  Winter, along with the cold temperatures and short days, is not my favorite time of year, but I am making the best this season this year, while focusing on finishing my project.  The cooler weather provides more time to do editing work for my photography project and it also provides time to catch up on things inside our house that I would otherwise put aside.  Below are the items I am loving during the winter!

Loving Winter 2015

1. Mantra Bands – A friend recently told me about Mantra Bands.  I love them and I sent several as Christmas gifts this year.  I have the one that reads, “Be Present,” which is my word and mantra for this year.  Thus, I am constantly reminded of my word for the year!

2. Athletica Down Vest — Doug got me a vest from Athletica, and I love it.  It has come in very handy, especially since the beginning part of winter has been unseasonably warm.  It is very comfortable and keeps me warm without simultaneously being too warm!

3. Goody Hair Ribbon Elastics — I recently discovered these hair ribbon elastics, and I love them.  I find them to hold my hair much better than regular hair rubber bands.

4. Clinique Face Primer — I have been using the Clinique Universal Face Primer, and I love it.  My makeup, when I wear it, goes on so much more easily, and it prevents flaking in the dryer, cooler months.

5. Fitbit  As part of my Christmas present from my parents, I got a Fitbit, and I love it.  It helps keep me on track with my movement, and I have been reaching 10,000 steps on most days!

6. Hold Still Sally Mann — After the Holidays, I started reading Sally Mann’s new memoir, and I am enjoying this book.  I love reading about other photographers and artists’ lives.  I like Sally Mann’s work and it is really intriguing to read more about her life and her artistic process.  I recommend this book to any  artist.

Things I Love: Fall 2015

It is already well into fall, our favorite time of year, and I wanted to share some items that I love!  This is our favorite time of year for many reasons — we adopted our little Victory in the fall and we recently celebrated her two-year anniversary/birthday; we celebrated our seventh wedding anniversary; and we just love everything fall!  We enjoyed our annual trip to the pumpkin patch with our Victory!  Doug also carved a wonderful pumpkin this year!  You can start to feel the crisp fall air in the mornings and evenings, which I love!

things i love fall 2015

1. Lululemon Align Pant – While we were in Quebec for vacation, we made our way to Lululemon, one of my favorite stores, and what made this trip even better is that our dollar is stronger than the Canadian dollar, and the prices are the same in Canadian and U.S. dollars, so we got a bigger bang for our buck!  I came across these pants while in Quebec, and they are the most, most, most comfortable pair of pants I own!  I highly recommend them!  They feel very similar to my favorite underware from Lululemon!   They were first released in Canada, and they were recently released in the U.S.

2. Rising Strong – I finished reading Rising Strong by Brene Brown.  This was a great read.   Rising Strong is essentially about rallying after a fall.  The Rising Strong Process has three stages.  First, The Reckoning, where you acknowledge that an emotional “button” has been pushed.  Second, The Rumble, where you revisit, challenge, and reality-check the (most-likely negative) narrative you have created for the situation.  Lastly, The Revolution, where you integrate what you learned from the second step into your future interactions with people, situations, life, etc.  This is a good process to implement.

I love this quote, “To love someone fiercely, to believe in something with your whole heart, to celebrate a fleeting moment in time, to fully engage in a life that doesn’t come with guarantees — these are risks that involve vulnerability and often pain.  But, I’m learning that recognizing and leaning into the discomfort of vulnerability teaches us how to live with joy, gratitude, and grace.” – Brene Brown

If you haven’t already, you can also view Brene Brown’s TED Talks here.

3. Anthropologie Candles — I love burning candles in our house, especially during the cooler months — it makes our home feel cozy.  I especially love the candles from Anthropologie, they are wonderful!

4. Magic Lessons Podcast — If you have not checked out this podcast by Elizabeth Gilbert, you should because it is really great!  I have listened to all of the podcast episodes, and they are very inspirational and enlightening.  According to Elizabeth Gilbert, the mission behind this podcast is to provide “road maps for the path to creativity, the extra nudge you need when you’re feeling stuck.”  After listening to Magic Lessons, I really enjoyed reading Big Magic, and I will share more soon!

5. Ergo Performance Carrier — Prior to leaving for vacation, I researched possible carriers that might work for Victory as Quebec City has narrow and cobblestone lines streets making the Hound About a bit more challenging for us to use in Quebec City as Victory gets nervous around many unfamiliar people, making walking her on her leash difficult.  So, we bought the Ergo Performance Carrier, made for a human baby up to 45 pounds, because of its breathable material (Victory is, after all, covered in fur) in a neutral color so that we both can wear it.  Doug was a little skeptical at first, but the Ergo Performance Carrier has won over!  Victory loves it!  Here is Doug wearing the Ergo on vacation; and here is me wearing the Ergo on vacation!  The Ergo has even come in really handy since vacation!

6. (Original Danish/Swedish Version) — Doug and I started watching The Bridge (the original Sweedish version) on Netflix, and we could not stop watching it!  It was very good.  We look forward to the next season of The Bridge!

Happy Friday!  We hope that you have a great weekend!  My parents and ‘Uncle Nick’ are in town visiting!  The weather is supposed to be beautiful!

Things I Love: Summer 2015

Well, it is already July and it is officially summer, and I wanted to share some items that I love, shown below!

We hope that you have a great 4th of July weekend!  We plan to enjoy time reading by the pool, relaxing on the deck, and having some friends over for a cookout this weekend, and it should be fun!  We hope for good weather.

Have a great long weekend!

loving summer 2015

1. Toms – I love Toms.  These are hands down the most comfortable spring/summer shoe around.  I highly recommend them.  I have four pairs!

2. Lululemon Undies — These are the best undies I have ever had.  If you are looking for extremely comfortable undies, particularly in the warmer months, I highly recommend these!

3. Shiseido Face Sunscreen — This is a wonderful sunscreen, which you can apply prior to makeup, which goes on smoothly and easily, while helping to protect your skin from sun damage.  It works great and protects your skin well.

4. Gain Scent Boosters — I love clean sheets, and the scent boosters work really well to keep your sheets smelling like they were just laundered.  I use the Midnight Breeze Fireworks Gain Scent Booster.  I also generally use Gain lavender detergent; and Snuggle white lavender liquid fabric softener; and lavender serenity Downy dryer sheets.

5. Skinny Pop – My Mom told me about Skinny Pop.  It is really tasty and low-calorie if you are looking for a tasty snack!

6. Propel Water — I have been trying to drink more water, and I really like Propel water.  It has a hint of flavor and therefore it makes me want to drink water more often.

Things I Love: Spring 2015

Well, it is technically spring, but it sure does not totally feel like it yet!  We were wearing our winter coats this past weekend!  At least we can hear the birds chirping in the mornings while getting ready for the day along with more sunlight, longer days.  Hopefully, spring is on its way soon and it will be here to stay!  Below are the items I am loving this spring!

cheese

1. Cabat Cheddar Cheese Shake – While we were in Vermont during our vacation this past year, I discovered Cabat Cheddar Cheese Shake!  This stuff is delicious!  It is great on popcorn and pasta, and it is good just to eat on its own!

2. Freeze Dried Ice Cream — I love freeze-dried ice cream!

3. Chobani Flip Greek Yogurt – I like yogurt and I have been eating Chobani Greek Flip Yogurt for lunch.  Key-lime crumble is my favorite!  So, if you like greek yogurt, I highly recommend this yogurt!

4. Clinique Superbalm Lip Treatment — I began using this lip balm during the winter months to provide extra moisture and protection for my lips.  Now, I use this lip balm every day.  It works wonders and really hydrates my lips with a nice shine!

5. Cetaphil Lotion — With the recent dry winter months, this lotion (non-scent and no oily residue) has worked really well in keeping my skin hydrated and soft.  I also use a Cetaphil face cleanser daily and it works great too!

6. LL Bean Adirondack Chair — Doug has always wanted to get Adirondack chairs.  So, we decided to get a set of Adirondack chairs with a matching small table to go along with our other deck furniture.  We went with the LL Bean Adirondack chair because it has an all-weather option, whereas other similar companies did not have this option.  We look forward to using these as soon as it gets a bit warmer!

Things I Love: Winter 2015

It is officially winter with the snow and cold temperatures, and I wanted to share some items that I love!  Winter, along with the cold temperatures and short days, is not my favorite time of year, but we try to make the best of it.  The cooler weather provides more time to do editing work on images for my photography project and it also provides time to catch up on things inside that I would otherwise put aside.  Below are the items I am loving during the winter!

loving 2015

1. Sleep — Nightime Tea Body Wash – I recently discovered this body wash at Bath and Body Works, and I really love it.  I use this body wash in the evenings when I take a quick shower after the gym and before bed.  It has such a nice smell and it is calming at the same time.

2. Doterra Oils — Doug’s Mom introduced me to these oils.  They are really soothing, especially the lavender and lemon.  I use them (a dab on my body) just before bed.  You can also add the oils to a warm bath.

3. Sugar Lip Polish — My lips are always dry, especially in the winter.  I decided to try Sugar Lip Polish, and it works well and it really conditions and exfoliates my lips.  I use it several times a week, and it does wonders!

4. Candles  We have been burning candles all over the house!  The candles give such a nice smell to our home and provides pretty light.  We generally burn candles in the evenings and on the weekends.  I like Yankee Candles; however, I am always searching and purchasing good smelling candles to use in our home!

5. Chobani Oats Greek Yogurt — I like yogurt, and I recently saw this new product at the store, and I decided to give it a try.  It is delicious, and the Apple Cinnamon flavor is my favorite!

6. Cherry Malted Milk Balls — Cherry Republic is Michigan based, and it sells everything cherry.  In my stocking, I received a bag of Cherry Malted Milk Balls, and they are delicious — one of my favorites!  Each time I go to Michigan, we usually visit the local Cherry Republic store and taste all of the samples!

Things I Love: Fall 2014

It is officially fall, and I wanted to share some items that I love!  This is our favorite time of year for many reasons!  We adopted our little Victory in the fall and her one-year anniversary/birthday is approaching next month, which is difficult to believe!  We have our wedding anniversary next month!  My sister gets married very soon — next month!  We moved to our new house in the fall (and sold our last home in the fall)!  And we just love everything fall!  We have trips to the cider mill and the pumpkin patch planned with our Victory!  You can start to feel the crisp fall air in the mornings and evenings, which I love!  Victory has also secured her Halloween costume for this year, which is just darling!

downtown abbey

1. Downton Abbey – Doug and I started watching Downton Abbey, while on vacation, and we got through the first three seasons and we were hooked!  The CD for season four just arrived and we cannot wait to start watching and see what happens next!

2. Bird By Bird  I reread Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott on vacation, and it contains really helpful advice for creatives, not just writers.  I highly recommend this book if you are looking for a dose of inspiration with your creative endeavors!  I previously wrote about this good read here.

3. Lululemon Tanks — I love Lululemon — especially since Biscuit could and Victory can go inside the Lululemon stores and dressing rooms with me!  While in Canada, where Lululemon is headquartered, I got some new Lululemon wear and I especially love my new tanks!  Oh, and Victory tried on some Lululemon yoga gear — just kidding — she hopped out of her Hound About and she did go with me into the dressing room, though — everyone thought she was adorable!

4. Good Life Project — I love the Good Life Project, which has weekly interviews with creatives, entrepreneurs, and many other interesting people!  The Good Life Project just wrapped up its video project, and will be turning its efforts to audio.  If you are interested in some good interviews, I highly recommend checking out the interviews on this website!  I have viewed most of the interviews over the past two years and they are quite insightful.

5. Tim Hortons Hot Chocolate — I tried this hot chocolate on vacation since Doug likes Tim Hortons so much!  It is quite tasty and I brought back a can of this hot chocolate for this fall and winter!  If you are looking for good hot chocolate, this is a good one!

6. Moleskin Journals — I have several Moleskin journals and they hold up really well during travel and they last a long time — quite durable!  They are very convenient to write down just about anything.  I like to have a place where I can write down notes to myself because otherwise, I will forget.  It is a lifesaver!

Things I Love: Summer 2014

It is officially summer, and I wanted to share some items that I love!  We are looking forward to longer days and more time outside!

loving summer 2014

1. Still Writing by Dani Shapiro – I am almost done reading this book, and it is great and I highly recommend it to creatives!  Shapiro talks about the struggles of writing, but almost everything she says can be applied to any creative discipline.  It reminded me that showing up and being dedicated to the work every day is how creatives create their work.

2. Big Green Egg — Since it has become warmer outside, Doug has been grilling on our Big Green Egg!  The food is always tasty!

3. Orange is the New Black — We are almost done with Season 2 of Orange is the New Black, and we enjoy watching this series!

4. Groove Short — I love Lululemon and recently got these shorts — they are very comfortable and nice to wear in the warmer months.  Plus, Victory came with us to Lululemon and she even came with me into the dressing room like Biscuit used to do — furry friends are permitted in all Lululemon stores!

5. Rita’s – We love Rita’s!  Sometimes we go several evenings in a row!  Fortunately, there is a Rita’s not too far from our house!  Victory loves to go with us as well.  She loves the vanilla custard — in moderation, of course!

6. Petzlife — Victory came to us with a bit of tarter on her two back molars.  Fortunately, with regular brushing and use of the Petzlife Oral Care spray, we have gotten rid of most of the tarter!  We try to brush Victory’s teeth four to five times a week — she tolerates me brushing them!  We also give her dental treats from the vet to also help clean her teeth!  Otherwise, her teeth are in great shape and we want to prevent teeth cleanings to mitigate her going under anesthesia.

Things I Love: Spring/Summer 2014

Well, it is technically not summer yet, but I wanted to share some summer items that I love!

nf-nourishing-cream-pdp-top

1. Living Proof Styling Cream – This really comes in handy during the humid summer days — it really helps control the frizz!

2. Glaceau Fruit Water — I recently tried this zero calorie fruit flavored sparkling spring water!  I am trying to drink  more water and I thought that this was a great way to drink more water!

3. Bobbie Brown Lip Gloss — I love Bobbie Brown lip gloss, and I love some of the pastel color lip glosses!

4. Kinder Happy Hippo (coco) — I recently bought a package of the Kinder Happy Hippo creams and they are very yummy!  They also come in hazelnut flavor as well.

5. Toms – I recently got a pair of Toms, and I love them for Mother’s Day from Victory and I already want another pair!  They are light-weight and very comfortable and they go well with capri pants, shorts, and skirts!  They come in a variety of colors and patterns!  The best part, is that with your purchase a free pair of shoes are sent to someone in need.

6. Essie Nail Polish — I do not wear a lot of nail polish, but I do like the Essie Nail Polish!  It is nice to paint your toes during the warmer months!

Things I Love: Spring 2014

Well, it is technically spring, but it sure does not feel like it yet!  Hopefully, spring is on its way soon!

what I love

1. Cetaphil Facial Cleanser — A friend recommended this facial cleaners and it works really well.  I have been really happy with this facial cleanser, and it is not expensive, a plus!

2. No. 7 Protect & Perfect Protection & Perfection Intense Serum — I read about this product in a magazine, and I use it daily.  It helps with having firmer and brighter skin!  I use this product mostly around my eyes.

3. Athletica — I love Lululemon, but I also really like some of the tops from Athletica!  They are really comfy and versatile!

4. SanDisk — I only use SanDisk memory cards in my camera, and so far, they have not let me down (knock on wood!).  I highly recommend using SanDisk memory cards — so far, they have been reliable!

5. The Killing — Doug and I watched the first two seasons of The Killing on Netflix (one episode after another!)  We are beginning the third season!  This series is really interesting and addictive to watch as it keeps you guessing as to who is the killer!

6. Cheese Please — Victory loves cheese.  So, in her BarkBox, we received a sampling of this yummy treat and we had to get her some more, so Doug ordered two boxes, one of which, is already gone!  It is an all natural treat.  So, if your furry family member loves cheese, I highly recommend trying this dog treat!

Things I Love: Winter 2014

Can you believe that it is officially winter!  The time is flying by!   Shown below are a few things that I am loving!

What I Love

1. Baby Powder – I love using Johnson and Johnson’s baby powder on Victory.  In between monthly baths, we use baby powder to keep Victory looking and smelling fresh.  I try and brush Victory’s fur out each day and then I add a bit of baby powder to her fur coat, which soaks up any oils and keeps her smelling fresh.  The baby powder is great for behind the ears, where long-haired dogs tend to get greasy!

2. Diaper Genie – Since moving to our new neighborhood, there are not any pet waste receptacles.  (We hope that this will change!)  As such, we had to find a way to dispose of little Victory’s poops!  As such, we bought a Diaper Genie and put it in the garage.   So far it is working and keeping any foul odors at bay!  If you need a way to dispose of your pet’s waste, this is a good option.  However, we shall see how this holds up in the warm summer months!  Thankfully, Doug takes care of the full Diaper Genie bags!

3. Make Your Creative Dreams Real – I am currently reading this book per the recommendation of a friend.  It is a really good book for creatives!  This book is very helpful for procrastinators and perfectionists — and give practical advice on following your dreams and calling.  This is a must read!

4. Crock Pot – Since it has gotten colder, Doug has been using our Crock Pot to make us some yummy dinners!  The Crock Pot has come in really handy and there are endless recipes to try and experiment with!

5. Snoozies – I have been wearing my Snoozie slippers since it has become more cold!  I even bought a few pairs for Doug!  They are very comfortable and I can wash them easily in the washer!  If you are in need of slippers these are great — there is even traction at the bottom of the slippers so you won’t slip on your hardwood floors!

6. Peppermint Shake from Chick-Fil-A – We do not normally eat too often at Chick-Fil-A, but we love the ice cream from Chick-Fil-A!  Doug usually gets a large vanilla ice cream cup, which he shared with Biscuit and he now shares with little Victory!  I especially love this time of year because I can get the peppermint shake, my all time favorite shake!

7. Noosa Yogurt – I recently discovered Noosa Yogurt at Wegmans.  It is a rich Greek yogurt that comes in a variety of flavors.  I love yogurt, so I am always venturing out and trying new types — brands and flavors of yogurt!

8. Hot Chocolate – Since it has gotten colder, I am enjoying hot chocolate!  A cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows warms me up after we get home from a long walk outside with Victory!
