Happy Birthday, Biscuit

Today is Biscuit’s birthday.  He would have been fourteen-years-old presuming his age was accurate when we rescued him.  However, it is very likely he was older.  We made August 8th Biscuit’s birthday as it was the day Biscuit was rescued off the streets in North Carolina where he was then taken to the Sheltie Haven Sheltie Rescue, Inc.  We rescued Biscuit from this rescue organization on January 7, 2011, and we enjoyed a wonderful two and a half years together.

We celebrated Biscuit’s birthday in Nova Scotia during the summers of 2011 and 2012; and in 2013, we spent our last vacation together in Manchester, Vermont.  We had a wonderful time together.  Doug and I have many wonderful memories of our summer vacations together with Biscuit.  We know that Biscuit is always with us in spirit.

Whenever I see a rainbow, I think of Biscuit.  We have seen several rainbows, including a double rainbow, and, each time, we immediately thought of Biscuit.  In fact, we saw a rainbow just last week after a heavy rain.

Below is one of my favorite images of Biscuit and Doug taken on the beach in Hubbards, Nova Scotia.

Biscuit, we hope that you have a wonderful birthday!  We hope that you are running on the beach with your sheltie furs blowing in the wind — a lovely and lasting image and memory that I will always cherish!  You are always and forever in our hearts, our sweet dear Biscuit.  Thank you for the many, everlasting gifts you gave to us.  We love you and miss you very much.  Happy Birthday!

Jones Soda: Please Vote for Biscuit!

I submitted this image, shown below, a few years ago, while our dear Biscuit was still alive, and I was notified recently that Biscuit is a ‘staff pick’ to possibly appear on the Jones Soda label again!

In the image, Biscuit is sitting with many bottles of Jones Soda with his image appearing on the Jones Soda label.

I would be most grateful if you vote today via the link below, which only takes a second and helps increase the chances of Biscuit getting on a Jones Soda label again!  (Also, please feel free to share — 1 vote per I.P. address is permitted!)

Honoring Biscuit and Victory

For my birthday last summer, Doug had two tapered baguettes added to my engagement ring, in honor of Biscuit and Victory — our first furry family members.  Doug originally designed the setting and picked out the stones for my engagement ring, on his own, several years ago, and I love it.  (The only other person we have seen have a similar engagement ring, which we somewhat recently discovered, is Princess Mary of Denmark — Doug has elegant taste fit for a princess!)  I like to think of my engagement ring representing: our past (left ruby), our present (center diamond), and our future (right ruby).

The top ring comprises small diamonds from Doug’s Grandma Rose’s wedding ring, and we added similarly sized rubys to this channel setting to coordinate with the engagement ring.  Doug’s Mom was thoughtful to give us some of the stones from Grandma Rose’s wedding ring; and we had the ring made soon after.  Grandma Rose was a very special lady and we miss her dearly — she was a very wise and strong woman.  She was a large part of Doug’s life and she was also a very positive influence in Doug’s life.  I am happy to have known Grandma Rose.  Family rings are really neat, as you are always able to carry that special person with you, which you can continue to pass down to future generations.

Adding a stone(s) to a favorite piece of jewelry is a unique way to honor a family member and/or furry family member!

Happy Monday!

Hearts: Biscuit and Victory

Just before our dear Biscuit passed away, I noticed a heart shape, shown on the right below, in the area near his neck where he had been shaved for his surgery, a sign to us that everything would be ok even though we were heart broken because of our great loss.

While we were away on vacation, while Victory took a nap, I noticed that Victory has a heart shape paw pad that is solid pink, the only one of her paw pads that is pink and it is in the shape of a heart.  I truly believe that our sweet dear Biscuit sent us a gift, our Victory, another perfect sheltie family member who Biscuit selected for us.  It is always interesting to see how everything is connected and intertwined.  We believe that Biscuit is always with us; and we believe Victory is the little fur girl that is meant to be part of our family as well.

Whenever I see a rainbow, I think of Biscuit.  Earlier this week after a good rain, the most beautiful and grand rainbow appeared over the geographic area where we previously lived with Biscuit.  We immediately thought of Biscuit.

Below is one of our favorite images of our beloved Biscuit taken in Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia.  He was so happy and he looked so handsome.

Biscuit, we hope that you have a wonderful birthday!  We hope that you are running on the beach with your sheltie furs blowing in the wind — a lovely and lasting image and memory that I will always cherish!  You are always and forever in our hearts, our sweet dear Biscuit.  Thank you for the many gifts you gave to us.  We love you and miss you very much.  Happy Birthday!

Honoring Biscuit and Victory: A Special Tribute — A New Look for Biscuit’s Space

Today is a big and special day on the blog!  Since we have had our little darling, Victory, for a year already as of October 12 (also Victory’s birthday), and because she is carrying on the ‘Biscuit’s Space’ name, we decided it was time to have Victory running next to her brother, Biscuit, on the blog’s header!  We do not think that Biscuit would mind sharing the blog header with his sissy, Victory, because Biscuit would want us to showcase helping other shelties like himself receive a second chance at life, while promoting dog rescue — the spirit of Biscuit’s Space.

Over the summer I contacted Bee Johnson, who illustrated the original header last summer, in honor of Biscuit, and I asked her if she would be willing to illustrate and add our Victory to Biscuit’s right side of the blog header.  In order to do this, I needed to get some good photos of Victory.  However, it was tough to capture Victory running while looking at the camera like Biscuit  because Victory is so quick on her feet!  After a couple of days of trying to capture the right image, while on vacation, with Doug’s help running with Victory, I finally got the image of Victory in motion, in a similar stance to Biscuit, along with a few close up images of Victory’s face.  These images, shown below, enabled Bee to create the illustration of our sweet Victory!  We absolutely love the new blog header, capturing the essence of Biscuit’s Space, with our furbabies, Biscuit and Victory, shown below!  Bee truly captured the essence of Victory and Biscuit!

Bee is very talented and she was wonderful and easy to work with on this project that is near and dear to our hearts!  Thank you so much, Bee — you brought our little Victory to life and we love the results of your work!  If you are looking for an illustration commission, I highly recommend working with Bee!

Please visit the blog to see the new blog header shown below!

Happy Birthday, Biscuit!

Today is Biscuit’s birthday.  He would have been eleven-years-old presuming his age was accurate when we rescued Biscuit.  However, it is very likely he was older.  We made August 8th Biscuit’s birthday as it was the day Biscuit was rescued off the streets in North Carolina where he was then taken to the Sheltie Haven Sheltie Rescue, Inc.  We rescued Biscuit from this rescue organization on January 7, 2011.

Below is a photograph of Biscuit on the beach, one of his favorite places, in Nova Scotia on his Birthday!  We got him a special birthday bandana and he strutted along the beach looking so handsome!

Biscuit, we hope that you have a wonderful birthday today!  We hope that you are running on the beach with your sheltie furs blowing in the wind!  You always loved the beach; and you loved to run on the sand!  You are always in our hearts, our sweet dear Biscuit.  We love you.  Happy Birthday!

Instagram: Biscuit’s Space/Katherine Carver

We may be a little late to the Instagram party, but we’re now on Instagram!  Doug and I decided that it was time to get iPhones, so we are now in the twenty-first century with our phones!   I now have another method, the iPhone, to document little Victory, which will come in handy during those time I do not have my regular camera with me!

I am a visual person and I love photography.  Thus, I thought that a ‘dog-centric Instagram’ would be a neat place to share images of Victory, our adventures together, along with snippets of our lives together, which I just started last week.  If you wish, please follow along here.  If you do not have a free Instagram account, you can follow along  on the right side of the blog!  I plan to post at least one photograph per day (likely more), including the weekends!  So feel free to come by for a visit!  (Instagram is the only social media that I use.)  Victory has already made sheltie friends following her in Japan and Israel!  It is amazing to see so many sheltie friends from literally all over the world!

Happy Wednesday!
