Submissions: ‘Dog-Centric’ Artists

As most of you know who have been following the blog, Biscuit’s Space was inspired by our beloved Biscuit, our first furry family member.  Biscuit is shown on the header and logo and throughout Biscuit’s Space.  Over time, Biscuit’s Space has grown and evolved, which is very positive.  Biscuit’s Space highlights my photography, my artistic journey, and portions of my life, including our furry family members, Biscuit and Victory.

In addition to my passion for photography and dogs, I love art.  As such, Biscuit’s Space has been a perfect place where my love of dogs and art have collided!  Biscuit’s Space has featured many ‘dog-centric’ artists and photographers.  In a quiet moment recently, the idea came to me to continue this feature and interview series and invite other ‘dog-centric’ artists to share their ‘dog-centric’ work on Biscuit’s Space!  Thus, I have developed a submissions tab on the menu bar to enable other ‘dog-centric’ artists to share their work on Biscuit’s Space, a perfect forum for ‘dog-centric’ artists!  I find that it is very interesting and fascinating to learn more about artists whose work is inspired by dogs!  Also, I think that other artists’ journeys, stories, and insights greatly help other artists as well.

Please share and feel free to submit your ‘dog-centric’ work to Biscuit’s Space!

SUBMISSIONS

Dogs are a constant source of inspiration.  Dogs are an integral part of many lives, often referred to as furry family members or fur babies.   Biscuit’s Space is curated with a strong artistic ‘dog-centric’ flair.  In addition to its regular content, Biscuit’s Space also features and interviews a myriad of ‘dog-centric’ artists.  Currently, many ‘dog-centric’ artists and photographers have been interviewed and featured on Biscuit’s Space.  It is always fascinating to learn more about artists who are inspired by dogs.

Biscuit’s Space is always looking to feature ‘dog-centric’ artists.  To submit your ‘dog-centric’ art work to Biscuit’s Space, e-mail katie@katherinecarverphotogrpahy.com with a link(s) to view your work.  If you are selected, you will be contacted for further information.

Cheers!

Pack: A New Way to Connect!

Pack is the new social media site for furry family members!  I have not yet registered our little Victory, but I thought I would share this new site with fellow ‘dog people!’  Pack as a unique way to chronicle the life of your dog, in a place designed just for dog people, in a brand new way!

You first set up your dog’s profile.  Then, you locate your specific breed and connect via e-mail (or Facebook); and then you can create your own unique design.  Next, you are able to search for other same breed dogs or different dog breeds and connect with many furry friends!  What a neat idea for our fur babies!

A few screen shots of the Shetland Sheepdog breed, the breed of Victory and Biscuit, are shown below!  Enjoy!

Gift Idea: BarkBox

Since it is the Holiday season, are you looking for a gift for your furry family member or a friend or family member’s furry family member?  I recently learned about BarkBox.  When you sign up for BarkBox, each month you will receive a box in the mail with carefully selected products and presents for your furry family member — anything from bones and treats to shampoos, leashes, and innovative new gadgets!

Whether you have known and loved your furry friend for years or have a new special canine in your life, BarkBox is a neat idea to keep new goodies regularly coming to your home for your furry family member!

Doug and I already purchased Victory’s Christmas gifts; however, I thought this was a neat gift idea for our furry family members!  Perhaps, in the future, we will get a BarkBox subscription for Victory as a gift!

You can read further about how the BarkBox process works here and here.  Basically, you select the size of your dog; select a plan (one time purchases are available); and then the BarkBox arrives at its destination for your furry family member!

Importantly, a portion of proceeds, ten percent, from each box will go to help doggies-in-need.

Giveaway: Gift Pack from the ASPCA!

The ASPCA recently contacted me to share some important and fun information with fellow ‘dog friends!’  Every year, the ASPCA encourages shoppers not to buy anything at stores that sell puppies.  Additionally, please check out the video, What Not to Buy, the ASPCA’s holiday video aimed at educating consumers about the connection between pet store puppies and puppy mills.

The holidays present a time when shoppers are buying gifts for pet lovers and pets alike, and studies show that over a third of Americans purchase holiday gifts for their pet(s).  Doug and I are in this category — we treat our beautiful Victory as a family member and we are excited about our first Christmas with our little Victory!  We have already begun our Christmas shopping for Victory!  Below, the ASPCA has shared some DIY gift ideas; pet gifts from its online store; and gifts for pet lovers!  This is a great way to help support the mission of the ASPCA!

Further, the ASPCA is giving away a Gift Pack shown below to one lucky winner — please read below as to how you can win this Gift Pack, a $100.00 value!  Please share with your family and friends!

DIY Ideas:  Below are some fun gift ideas for DIY enthusiasts or just those trying to cut back on costs.  As such, ASPCA behavior experts have put together the following suggestions, some of which are pictured below:

  • DIY dog gift: To make a tasty chew toy, soak a rope toy in chicken broth and then freeze. Once frozen, give the toy to your dog for hours of savory chewing.
  • DIY cat gift: Rip off a piece of aluminum foil, put cat food or cat nip in it, and crumble it up into a ball. This serves a fun batting toy for hours of kitty entertainment.

The Best Rain Coat!

If you are in need of a raincoat for your furry family member — I have a great recommendation!  While we were in Nova Scotia for vacation during the summer of 2011, Doug and I discovered RC Pets, a Canadian company that makes dog and cat apparel and other products.  We liked Nova Scotia so much that we returned again during the summer of 2012.  Since Biscuit had issues with arthritis and he was very particular about anyone manipulating his delicate paws and legs, the RC Pets’ Metro Slicker Rain Coat worked really well for him because it is very easy to get on without slipping any dog legs through the raincoat!

Biscuit had a red RC Pets’ Metro Slicker Rain Coat that is too large for Victory.  Also, even Nick (my parents’ Papillon mix rescue dog) has a red RC Pets’ Metro Slicker Rain Coat — Nick and Biscuit got matching rain coats from Nova Scotia!  Along with Victory, Biscuit and Nick are pictured below in their matching rain coats!   Thus, we needed to get Victory a raincoat and we ordered Victory a pink RC Pets’ Metro Slicker shown below!  She seems to enjoy wearing it — she keeps adding to her ‘pink  outerwear collection!’  Her raincoat comes in handy for days like today when it is sprinkling outside!

Thus, if you are in need of a raincoat for your dog, I highly recommend this product!  RC Pets also has many other jackets and outerwear for dogs as well!

Happy Friday!
