Winterthur – Yuletide

Over the weekend I mentioned that we went to the Winterthur Museum, located in the Bradywine Valley in Delaware, to see the Downton Abbey Costume Exhibit and we also saw the Yuletide exhibit.  The Christmas trees in the Yuletide exhibit and tour were spectacular!  Some of my favorite trees from this exhibit are shown below.  Apparently, one man creates all of the Christmas trees for the Yuletide exhibit each year and he begins in January of each year in order to finish all of the Christmas trees!  My favorite Yuletide tree is composed of all dried flowers, shown in the image on the left below — very beautiful!

These Christmas trees are sure to get you in the Christmas spirit!

Happy Thursday!

Wish Ball

Over the weekend, we went to Delaware to the Winterthur Museum to see the Downton Abbey Costume Exhibit and we also saw the Yuletide exhibit, with amazing Christmas trees.  (I will share some more on our visit soon!)  While at Winterthur, I purchased a wish ball, shown below.  You must be sure of your wish, because once you write down your wish and roll it up and stick it in the globe, you cannot take your wish back!  Your wishes will also remain private because one would have to crack the globe to view its contents.  You can also simultaneously use the wish globe as a gratitude globe as well.  I thought that this was a really neat idea!  Yesterday, I made some wishes!

Happy Wednesday!

Victory: Thanksgiving 2014

We hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  Victory had a great Thanksgiving!  Here she is pictured on Thanksgiving morning going for her morning walk with her cute pink fleece and matching hat, that is a little crooked as she had just shook her entire body!  Victory ate turkey for dinner instead of her kibble!  During dinner, she placed herself squarely right between Doug and I to ensure she got enough turkey!  She did try a little bit of mashed potatoes as well and Victory did not have any complaints!  We also took Victory for her first trip to Annapolis over the weekend and she had a grand time!  (I will share more on our adventure soon!)

Victory was “on” all weekend while family visited and now she is catching up on her sleep after much excitement!  Victory loves her routine and when her routine changes from the norm, we think it is a bit scary for her.

Victory ordered her Christmas tree and she is going to help us decorate our tree when it comes in the mail from Maine in the next couple of days!  This will be Victory’s first Christmas tree!

Happy Tuesday!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thankfulness is the beginning of gratitude.  Gratitude is the completion of thankfulness.  Thankfulness may consist merely of words.  Gratitude is shown in acts.  -David O. McKay

Doug and I are cooking Thanksgiving dinner!  Doug’s parents flew in to spend Thanksgiving with us!  Little Victory is more than ready for her turkey dinner tonight!  Doug and I have so much to be thankful and grateful for each day.  We count our blessings everyday.  Below is a photograph of our blossoming Victory wearing her new Thanksgiving bandanna!

I am very grateful for you, the blog readers!  Thank you so much for following along on our journey!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Around Here: November

Happy Thanksgiving week!  Oh my goodness, it difficult to believe that it is almost Thanksgiving!  We can hardly believe it!  The last quarter of this year is especially going by so quickly.  Below are some things that have occurred in November around here!

-completing ten photo shoots for my long-term photography project — with many more shoots forthcoming!

-culling and editing many images.

-working on finishing editing our vacation images, which I hope to share soon!  (I have been so behind!)

-having fine art prints made and framed for our home!

-eating delicious homemade donuts, shown below — made by Doug!

-making homemade pizzas with Doug on Sunday nights!

-began reading this book of quotes.

-watching Netflix and the final season of Sons of Anarchy.

-getting ingredients and recipes together for Thanksgiving dinner!

-designing and completing our Holiday card and sending it to print along with ordering custom stamps and seals, a yearly tradition!

-putting up our outdoor (white) Christmas lights along with our new battery-operated wreath from Grandinroad!  I know that we are a few days early with our outdoor lights, but we took advantage of the nice weather this past weekend!  Plus, the lights look so pretty!

-deciding which live Christmas tree to order from Maine!

-ordered Victory’s Christmas gifts — I will share more on this soon!

-gaining many more blog subscribers this month!  Yay!  Thank you to all of my blog readers!

Happy Monday!

‘The Middle’

‘The middle’ is where I have been spending a lot of my time with my long-term dog photography project.  The “middle,” to me, are those long hours of creating that fall between the exciting beginning and the finale and the gratification of finishing.  I have been working on this project consistently for almost two years now as of this winter, with a bit more work to complete.  Biscuit was the inspiration for this project and this body of work will be dedicated to him in his great honor.   To be succinct, Biscuit positively changed our lives forever.

It is easy to find joy in the completion of the accomplishment.  However, at times, it is ‘the middle’ that I struggle with.  The doing; the process; the working through the issues that arise; the daily work; and so on.  There are days that things do not go as planned and unanticipated issues arise.  However, no matter what, the need and desire never leaves me to keep pressing on.  Some days showing up and working is easier than others.  There are days where I just need a break, which helps brings a fresh perspective and breath of fresh air to the work.  All the while, I am finding the joy in ‘the middle.’  I am focusing on how grateful I am to be able to work on this project, while meeting like-minded people.  It really is a wonderful honor.  So far, I have been so fortunate to have wonderful people helping me to bring this project to fruition, which will raise awareness and allows me to study the relationship between dog and human, a subject that I am very curious about.  (I cannot wait to share more information upon the project’s completion).  So, for all of you in ‘the middle,’ which is where we spend most of our lives, enjoy and savor ‘the middle.’

Happy Birthday, Nick!

Over the weekend, it was Nick’s birthday and he turned eight, we think!  Nick, as most of you might know who have been following the blog, is my parents’ rescue papillon mix dog!  My parents adopted Nick in August of 2011.  In our family, we celebrate our furry family members’ birthdays (we most recently celebrated Victory’s birthday in October!)  This year, we got Nick an assortment of bandannas for his birthday!  Nick also got a new sweater from my parents, which he is wearing below.  Last year, we got Nick an Orvis bed, and the year before, we got him an embroidered sweater!  We are all for spoiling our furry family members!

Happy Birthday, Nick!

P.S.  Here is a video of Nick!

Photographs: My Sister’s Wedding

It is difficult to believe that it will be a month tomorrow since my sister, Kassie, got married at Greenfield Village at the Henry Ford Lovett Hall!  Kassie looked beautiful and very happy on her wedding day!  Everything turned out very beautifully.  Below are some images from my sister’s wedding taken by Marc Williams, who photographed the wedding; I edited and curated the images shown below, creating a narrative of the wedding day.  The wedding was elegant, timeless, and iconic, and these images shown below speak to this theme reflecting the highlights of the wedding day.

Additionally, here is a link to my images of the “getting ready” portion of the day along with a few wedding images as well!

Kassie and Jason, we are so happy for you and we can’t wait to see your honeymoon photographs from Spain, Morocco, England, and France!

Snapshot: Honeymoon

Since we just celebrated our sixth wedding anniversary, and the blog was not in existence at the time we got married, I thought I would share some sights from our honeymoon.  We went on a three and a half week honeymoon to France, Monoco, and Israel!  It was wonderful!  Below is a snapshot of our honeymoon!

Six Years In

Not only did we celebrate Victory’s Birthday this weekend, on Saturday we celebrated our six-year wedding anniversary!  It is difficult to believe six years ago around this time we were getting married!  Oh my goodness, the time is flying by!  To celebrate, we went to one of our favorite restaurants for dinner and Doug surprised me by sending me a beautiful bouquet of fall colored roses, pictured below!

I cannot imagine my life without Doug by my side — he makes everything better and he is the most supportive and patient person I have ever met — truly a gift!  I look forward to many, many, many more wonderful years together!  I am very grateful and fortunate because each day with you is truly a gift.  Happy Anniversary!
