As I mentioned, prior to Thanksgiving, Victory and I were on CBS Mornings Plus on Friday, November 29, 2024, and it was so much fun! Victory did an excellent job, and she was so calm and at ease, despite all of the cameras and lights! We are so proud of her, and I am beyond thankful we could do the segment together, as Victory has been by my side, for the bulk of this project, while creating this body of work, even though Biscuit was the inspiration for ABANDONED. (I believe Biscuit has an awareness of everything associated with ABANDONED.) I will never forget this experience at CBS, and what made it even more special, is that our entire family was welcome at the CBS studio! The producer, Erin Rosenblum, was wonderful to work with, and she even gave Alex a tour of the studio, while I got my hair and makeup done—Alex was in heaven! Alex also loved the greenroom! It was a wonderful experience for all, and I am enormously grateful that CBS Mornings, particularly to Jackie Puskas, for featuring my new book, ABANDONED: Chronicling the Journeys of Once-Forsaken Dogs!
Below are a few snapshots from our time at the CBS studio!
Below are a few photos from our New York City visit! Victory made it to Central Park, and she absolutely loved it! Victory was such a champ walking all around Central Park with a big smile on her face! Then she came back to the hotel and took a long nap! Alex had an amazing time, and she now wants to live in New York City! We are so grateful for this special time together!

In my new book, ABANDONED: Chronicling the Journeys of Once-Forsaken Dogs, I chronicled roughly 60 once-abandoned dogs, illuminating each one’s journey from a shelter or rescue organization to a loving, permanent home. ABANDONED is a decade-long project inspired by my own rescue Shetland Sheepdog, Biscuit, who had been abandoned. This set me on a quest to examine the lives of other abandoned dogs. I initially met and photographed each dog shortly after they entered a shelter or rescue organization, and then again approximately a year after being adopted. The juxtaposition of the “before and after” photographs illustrate the profound benefits of animal adoption for both dogs and humans alike. Especially now, with the dog overpopulation crisis and the recent natural disasters, it is critical for people to adopt these special dogs in need of permanent, loving homes.
Below are a few photographs of the dogs, who are still living, that are featured in ABANDONED with their physical books, provided by their adopters! These dogs include from the top left to the bottom right: Sabre/Arfy; Merlotte’s Tara/Tara; Dennison/Denny; Robo/Washburne; Dreifuss/Dreyfuss; Minnie; Clooney; Tyson/Cruz; and Humphrey/Ricky-Bobby! I am so incredibly grateful that some of the dogs featured in ABANDONED are still here with us on earth, as I photographed the dogs for this long-term project during 2013 through 2015.
